At WorldGuessr I’m honestly getting 25K all the time in the random ‘Whole world’ map. I must admit I dedicate around 90 minutes per game in order to achieve it, but it’s never impossible (yet very complicated sometimes depending on the country).

This screen capture is of my last 3 games. Variable duration is mainly due to the fact that I can’t manage to do a game without interruptions and thus leave the PC turned on so I don’t lose progress, but average real duration is around 90 minutes as I said before.

I thought more people were doing like me though. The main things I pay attention to in order to achieve this are:

  • Flags (I know many flags, that helps)
  • Website domains (.nz → New Zeland, .au → Australia, etc., although some are tricky, like .za which is South Africa). They can be found in trucks and stores.
  • Driving side. If I see English streets and avenues but the driving side is the right one, it very probably is the US or Canada. Plus, if I look around and don’t find US flags, it’s Canada with almost an 80% probability haha.
  • Roadway. Once I know the country, I try to go out to a roadway to see the road name and try to see if they go to a specific city (fortunately a country capital), so it’s easier to see it in the map.

Don’t take me wrong, some places have been a nightmare to find (I’ve had bad experiences with Malaysia, among others) and I’ve had to dedicate much more time. But, overall, following these steps I manage to find the majority of places.

Edit: one more useful thing! If it turns out you know the city already and you’re trying to find the location in the map, railways are a great reference to use - obviously not all cities have railways, but when they do they’re very easy to locate in the map because they are represented differently

Wow! Congrats! If you feel like you’ve mastered the Free Play mode try out the Ranked Option, or limit yourself on time, even if it is just 5 minutes less than your average time. From that point going quicker is the only improvement! I’m really impressed

That’s absolutely amazing! Do you have any countries you’re best at?

I’d say the US is relatively easier than some other countries, because most of the time you’ll easily find references to the country, the state and the city.

  • Most houses in the US seem to have the US flag, so in residential areas it’s very very easy to detect that.
  • When you go to a city centre, or even in roadways, there are billboards with ads saying things like ‘The best [whatever] of [state]!’. I generally always find something similar pointing to the state.
  • Then, I just go to a roadway and try to find indications showing how far I am from several cities, which allows me to find them in the map.
  • And finally, the street, avenue, road, etc. in which you are standing is written in street view, so once I locate the city in the map I look for the street and voilà, click very close to the real location (sometimes ~3 metres or less haha).

If you can speed that process up, you’d definitely be one of the top players wow!

I’d love to! But it’s sometimes really really difficult. As I mentioned before, Malaysia can be crazy. I spent once around 50 minutes to try and find the exact location, because I got the name of the village by browsing Street View, but for some reason it was not ‘registered’ in the map. I went back and forth browsing the road in which the village was, but the name was not showing. I don’t even remember how I finally managed to figure out the location in the map, but I can tell it was the hardest I’ve done so far.

That’s odd was the map outdated? Still congrats on getting that location XD
