Why did swordbattle die while realmz lives on

basically what I trying to say.

you barely did anything to realmz Gautam and those people probably hate you for the rebrand you did. so that is why they are playing realmz or smth.

or just disliked the rebrand.

or is not interseted in SB.

or doesn’t want to play SB ever since you decided to do that rebrand and think it a disgrace or smth.

or it just low-key boring.

or cause of what you did to try to bring people back aka tried to make the og skins buyable.

or just drama.

or cause of what you said with discord.

gautam you decided to focus on worldguessr, which is good and all the player count of that is good, but once you focus on one game and stop focusing on another, time will tell that it wont be doing as well

Bro are you sure your numbers are right the game is at 25 players rn

In my opinion, realmz never died or suffered from anything.

I’m going to assume that you are talking about the effects of what happened after the forum’s rebrand. Since most of the realmz community lives on discord, realmz was able to retain it’s active players. Compared to swordbattle where a much larger chunk uses the forums as the main method of communication, they’ll be more likely to leave as it won’t be swordbattle focused anymore. In addition to that, a lot of people have been discouraged by the long wait and because of the fact that the rebrand is taking so long, those who left will be less likely to return as they will probably forget considering it has been over than just a couple of months.

Now if you are referring to the actual game themselves, there are definitely a couple of things that make realmz stand out from swordbattle.

  • I feel like the first big one that comes up into my mind is the fact that realmz has more dynamic PVP than swordbattle. When I say dynamic, I mean that there are variables that are changing that modifies the outcome of lets say a battle between you and someone else. Some variables could include the fact that there are obstacles everywhere on the map in realmz. You have to navigate through those obstacles and take the more optimal path than whoever is your opponent. On swordbattle, although you have trees, frozen lakes (or whatever they are called), acid/lava pools, and possibly others that I am missing, each of those things do not threat a potentially new outcome of a battle. I suppose you could use the water which gives you a speed boost, the abilities of each class, or using the bosses to aid you in battle while also managing to dodge the bosses’ attacks at the same time to be a battle defining aspect that changes the outcome but in realmz, it just feels like there is just a lot more. In addition to the obstacles that I mentioned in realmz, you also have mobs blocking your preferred/optimal paths, decreased vision when you go into caves, sources that provide regen other than natural health regeneration, portals that lead to different areas, more unique upgrades which I’ll get into later, and weapon classes that each have it’s own distinctive traits and advantages that make the shifts of who is winning in this [insert a cinematic fight scene here] a much more exponential/dramatic curve and seeing how each player choose to exploit those advantages that are part of their weapon class that they have picked while also attempting to subside the disadvantages of the weapon. With all these variables in the environment and choices players make, the outcome of a fight is a lot less predictable on realmz when compared to swordbattle.
  • Killing mobs is more dynamic as well lol. Given that realmz has the freedom of movement on a platformer, there are mobs that have much more interesting patterns of movement. Take the zombie biome portal thing or whatever it’s called, those zombies move erratically and quickly that makes that place a difficult area to grind experience. However, to offset that, zombies give a larger amount of experience to offset that difficulty and it makes the area more rewarding for skilled players. There is also contrast in these movements with slimes being a slower mob but something much easier to defeat. Another example of eccentric mob movements in realmz are bats. They fly. Woah, so cool. There are also mobs that shoot projectiles in realmz, not bosses, normal mobs. Pretty sure yall don’t have that in swordbattle.
  • Realmz has unique upgrades that aren’t just direct stat boosts to speed, health, damage, regen, etc. There are upgrades such as heavy that increase your fall speed along with each of the other ascension upgrades that have advantages and drawbacks, chain dash which reduces your dash cooldown, stealth mode which increases your speed only when you are in stealth, monster slayer increases damage to specifically mobs, wisdom increases exp gain, etc
  • Consistency in the design and graphics of realmz. Because some parts of swordbattle’s graphics such as skins are made by the community, they all don’t exactly look unified. In comparison to realmz, each skin follows a “style” that rarely breaks those guidelines or rules for that “style”. An easy way to notice this is by going to swordbattle’s skin shop and you should be able to find skins that have or don’t have outlines, skins that have eyes or don’t have eyes, etc.
  • More biomes in Realmz. This is probably self explanatory.

I think this is about all I got at the moment of writing this.

Yes most of the sb community (like the well known people) are gone now, but since early v2 + rebrand killed all of them off, the game has definitely seen an increase in players (both more players making accounts and players playing the game over longer periods of time)

I do agree with the part about realmz having a bigger community on discord than sb, most people who play sb play during school or on unblockers, and therefore like 70% of them don’t have access to discord but DO have access to the forums because the forums are rarely blocked. Because of the forum rebrand incident I don’t think that the new discord sb community will ever be as good as the forum one could be

Also yes the gameplay of realmz is 100% better than swordbattle, as sb is currently in its era where its not the “simple” game it once was but its not yet the quality game it could be to revive it again

I made it bad on purpose

I feel like the communities of both games have suffered and become smaller over time, but when we’re only talking about the game’s playerbase itself realmz has been keeping it good and sb has been getting good at having lots players

Even though the game is way better, the people there are so terrible. The forum and the game was filled by toxic trollers who were friends of the dev. They even made a clan for toxic teaming pros. And I even heard rumors they even kicked crabcakes out for being friendly. Elemental was friendly and Lazorback did say thank you to my compliment about his skin when he was killing me, but the rest were absolutely toxic. But none could rival the toxicity of 7clappz. He was the worst of them all, but the community was dependent on him and his ban did kill the community. But still, good riddance 7clappz. I hope you never come back you toxic 8-year old.
