WorldGuessr has always been built on openness, community, and a shared love of exploration. As we continue to grow, we’re making thoughtful changes to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project while preserving the values that brought us here.
Effective March 29, 2026, the WorldGuessr source code license has transitioned from MIT to PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0.
What does this mean for you?
If you’re a student, educator, hobbyist, or curious developer exploring our codebase, this doesn’t affect you! Your journey continues, uninterrupted. We encourage you to learn, experiment, and build. That’s what open source is all about.
What’s different?
Commercial use of the WorldGuessr source code is no longer permitted without prior written agreement. Because the experiences you’ve helped us build? They deserve to stay right here.
With us. Together.
All code up to and including commit ef88928 remains available under the original MIT License under which it was published. Any use of code from subsequent commits is governed exclusively by the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license.
We will be pursuing action against unauthorized parties who are using up-to-date version of the WorldGuessr code, branding, or services commercially without permission. If you are currently operating a derivative of WorldGuessr in a commercial capacity, we encourage you to reach out to us directly at [email protected] before further steps are taken.
We’re also introducing a revised Terms of Service.
It’s short. It’s clear. And it’s designed to keep WorldGuessr a safe, fair, and welcoming space for players of all ages. You can review it alongside our updated Privacy Policy at
Terms of Service & Privacy Policy - WorldGuessr.

We’re so glad you’re here. And we’re not going anywhere.
