There is though, if I remove discord link from homepage and market forum as the “official community” i’ll easily get 100-200 new members within a few weeks (over 10,000 people play worldguessr on weekdays).
Not really, the forum rn consists of the same 20-30 people replying on everything and its not even growing, and judging by how long you guys have been active over so many changes to the forum I think its likely that 90% of the current active users will stay and pitching it to a new audience can help grow the active userbase and make it better! about the markdown stuff I wil definitely help with making some resources for that and aiding the transition. Again this is one of the reasons I want to do the migration sooner than later so the discord community doesnt get too big and hard to move (bigger than sb discord already).
@coolguy53 and i dont get why gautam isnt at least getting swordbattle some priority
its been like 10-20 ccu for the past 4 years and waste of my time to maintain it. worldguessr has been here for a few months and has 1000+ ccu. not to say swordbattle is bad but just doesnt make the cut rn since my schedule is JAM PACKED rn I wish one of you guys can some to see how my average day goes (its crazy)
this is really requested and I do care about you guys (u guys helped me since the beginning) so I will maintain support for swordbattle and realmz users after the migration, although most likely new users won’t be joining since I’ll make the official community Discord again

Let gautam be I know we don’t get updates but he is older and he has a VERY successful game that is making him money SB isn’t really meant to have as many ppl playing as world guessr and gautam’s schedule is prob hella packed since school studying and maintaining EVERYTHING including forum
he really does also if i can get DISC at one point to work agn then ima get on with all of you PEEPS and chat and allathat he will prob try his best since he prb priorities the things that are keeping him sustained like worldguessr.
I feel like this is more short-term. There’s no guarantee that people click into the forum. If you’re confident tho there’s no harm in doing it, but people tend to hate change is all. At the very least, there will be some increase in users compared to now.
Edit: I brain farted, this actually makes sense tbh, probably will work.

I feel like the problems causing the lower playcount is mainly not enough unblockers since things blocking swordbattle are getting stricter, and also the lack of any incentive for players to play the game for more than a single day or maybe like a week (the daily streak in worldguessr is a pretty good example, and this reason is probably the main problem)
Also what I meant by “having more priority” wasn’t including the other busy time you have (thats completely understandable if you aren’t working on either game during those times) but rather just the time that you’re working on worldguessr, and what I’m suggesting is that around 25% of that time developing that is spent on swordbattle instead, just so the game doesn’t completely die

Imo sb is already blocked by the main blockers so while yes I can fight by making more they will just keep blocking, I just need to make a game which can survive out of school aka worldguessr. I get your point with the incentives stuff, we’ll see I think its hard to revive a game after 4 years and its on a pretty clear down trend. I’ll still work on sb from time to time though, dw

Yeah the unblocker war is a huge problem for swordbattle especially with the price it’d cost for so many links, but playing in school is still the best way for io games to get popular right now
Getting people who play in school and have a home computer to play after school or during the weekend still seems like it could turn out well, and if the game gets a higher ratio of longterm players to shortterm players then it could maybe have a small revival

Coder idk about this I could of seen it coming but removing sb from the fourm when it’s the thing that started it is kinda wild to me and the discord is nowhere close to active though i understand waning to move there sense that wouldn’t cost money
Id appreciate if you can continue allowing pull requests for community made updates (idk how it can be managed without exploitation but since the player base is so small and so stupid I think it’ll be fine)
Just shows how bad geoguessr’s p2p policy
