step 1. learn linux
step 2. buy a raspberry pi 3, 4 (reccomended for price if new to linux and you don’t already own one, as many are on clearence to make room for pi 5) , or 5 with at least 4 GB RAM (cost ~$100) (you may be able to manage with 2/1 GB RAM options, i just put down 4 gb cuz thats the model i have)
step 3. check if the website https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/connect/ is not blocked
step 4. setup
(next few steps optional)
step 5. install tor, proxy server, vpn
step 6. buy a cooling fan/case and maybe try overclocking
PROS
cool
use outside of unbl0cking
learn linux
practical, portable, low-cost computer
CONS
can only use raspbian/raspberry pi os
costs +$100 (sometimes more than $150 if you buy a pi 5 with 8 GB)
EDIT: I was unaware that the Pi 5 16 GB RAM version was launched, this one costs well over $200 with the starter kit (recommended because it comes with cooling supplies) which you may want to buy if you want to have more than 1 chrome tab or host an ai locally through ollama
OTHER IDEAS FOR ADDED SECURITY
- Set up a proxy (proxylists.org)
- Use TOR (ONLY USE CLEARNET SITES)
- Set up a VPN (OpenVPN comes pre-installed on most Linux distros; otherwise extremely easy to install)
- Switch the default search engine on Firefox (you don’t necessarily need to get another browser, Google pays Firefox to make them the default browser, just switch to DuckDuckGo)
